Obtaining Additional Phone Numbers – Options & Availability
Summary: At United Business Solutions, we provide access to geographic numbers across all regions of South Africa, ensuring your business can establish or maintain a local presence wherever required. This guide explains your available options, the process involved, and how we help you retain important existing numbers
Requesting Additional Phone Numbers
Availability of Numbers
We can supply geographic numbers across South Africa, including all major metro and regional codes, subject to availability.
While new 011 (Johannesburg) numbers are no longer available for allocation industry-wide, this does not mean you need to lose your existing number.
✅ If you currently have an 011 number, we can port it into our platform, allowing you to retain your established business identity without interruption.
For businesses requiring new Johannesburg numbers, we can provide:
- 010 numbers – These have effectively replaced new 011 allocations and are widely recognised and accepted.
- 087 national (non-geographic) numbers – Ideal for businesses operating nationally or wanting a single contact number regardless of location.
If you require a number in another province or region, we can allocate geographic numbers across South Africa to suit your expansion or operational needs.
Special or Vanity Numbers
Should you require a specific or “special” number (for example, an easy-to-remember sequence), we can submit an application where available through Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA). Allocation is subject to regulatory approval and availability.
Process
Requesting additional numbers is simple:
- Contact your Account Manager or our Support Team.
- Confirm whether you require:
- A new geographic number (any region in South Africa),
- A new 010 or 087 number, or
- Porting of an existing 011 (or any other) number.
- Provide the relevant user details (names and email addresses).
- Confirm your preferred call routing setup (extensions, ring groups, auto-attendants, etc.).
We will handle the configuration and keep you informed throughout the process.
Example
A business expanding into Pretoria may request a new 012 number while simultaneously porting their long-standing 011 head office number. Once routing instructions are confirmed, we configure both numbers to operate seamlessly within the same system.
Conclusion
Expanding or adapting your business telephony is straightforward and flexible. While new 011 numbers are no longer issued, we specialise in porting existing 011 numbers, ensuring continuity for your business. We can also supply 010 replacements, 087 national numbers, and geographic numbers across South Africa to support your growth.
Please contact your Account Manager so we can tailor the right numbering solution for your business.
